Fund Raising
The Chester Historical Society is a nonprofit organization as qualified under Section 501(c) (3) of the IRS code. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
The Chester Historical Society operates with help from the following:
• GoFundMe (Years of the Covid-19);
• Donations from individuals & companies;
• Chester Historical Society Endowment Fund (Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan)
• Grants from civic organizations, government & companies;
• Bequests, both financial and historical items;
• Fund raising events (Yard Sale every June, Penny Social every September, and Raffle every year);
•Recycle Cell Phones, Pagers, Empty Inkjet and Toner Cartridges! Chester Historical Society fundraiser in cooperation with Staples.com. Drop-off at:
★1915 Erie Station (Saturdays 9am - 1pm & Sundays 1-3 pm May through October;
★Clifton Patrick, Town of Chester Historian, 119 Rt.17M (Anytime - just leave at door);
★ Chester Hisorical Society Office & Archive, 93 Brookside Ave. (Anytime - just leave at door);
★additional locations to be announced as they are added.
•Shop and search on Goodsearch.com, select the Chester Historical Society and they’ll donate to the Society!
The Chester Historical Society was founded November, 1964.
Chartered by the New York State Board of Regents as a nonprofit education corporation.
Our mission is to:
Promote the rich heritage of the Village and Town of Chester, New York through the acquisition, restoration and preservation of its historical places, documents and recordings of oral history; provide educational programs for school children, community organizations and all those individuals interested in local folklore and history; and exhibit collections of artifacts, pictures, newspapers and recorded oral histories to the general public.
We also operate the 1915 Erie Station, Chester’s Local History Museum,
which is open 9 am - 1 pm Saturdays May - October
